The Spirit of Learning
$ 25.00

This is my explanation, with the help of my past students and their poetry, of what teaching is about. It is far more than most people in the general public and in teaching itself think it is in terms of what it can do for students or prevent them from doing/learning. It is crucial that teaching be approached in a way that allows students some freedom of thought and unfortunately I don't see this happening - not in the past and not now. What we end up with is really, in my mind, a parody of what the person could be if s/he had been enabled to explore his/her consciousness to a greater degree. We are too busy telling them what is what! The last chapter has been written for me by colleagues of mine from the University of Hawaii and it describes, in a more formal way, one philosophy that understands what was done.

Give up all questions except one... Who Am I?
$ 15.00
This monograph describes the importance of children being themselves in the classroom environment: feeling free to think and investigate and to produce material that one can only marvel at in terms of its philosophical thinking. It presents the initial writings of several of the children and then interviews with them at least ten years later when they were adults looking back on their classroom experience and what they wrote.

Community in the Classroom
$ 20.00
The reflective handbook "Community in the Classroom: An End to Domination and Bullying" has been written for a variety of people. It is meant for the trainee teacher who must constantly monitor his/her development as a teacher, it is for the practising teacher who likewise should monitor what is happening in the classroom and it is for parents, home schoolers and the business person who is interested in learning how to recognize just when a person is a powerful person (irrespective of his/her social position in life) and how to develop powerful, worthwhile people rather than individuals who strive to destroy others. Yes, this handbook (which can be studied alone or in a group) is meant for anybody interested in integrity in his/her environment and harmony in daily activities). There is plenty of room in the book for your own thoughts and reactions.

AUDIO NUMBER ONE OF DOWNLOAD SET
"RELEASING THE NATURAL MIND IN CHILDREN"
NUMBER ONE DOWNLOAD: "RELEASING THE NATURAL MIND"
This download is the first one in the set and is an in-depth interview between Maureen McInerney (former Producer for the Australian Broadcasting Commission ABC-TV) and myself, Dr Erin Neill, regarding my days teaching Year 7 and the amazing outcomes. What this download does is shine a light on what I did as a teacher to bring about the results which were achieved and which astounded everybody, especially the results in the children’s free verse writing. I have to admit that I was astounded and delighted myself by the outcomes of my teaching style which I knew were very different from those of the other teachers. Fortunately for me, I had six years when I had a principal who said to me "I don’t know what you are doing but keep it up!" How I admired him for his faith in me because I was not teaching the English curriculum the way the other teachers were, but I was in fact teaching the way the people who wrote

I did not learn my books, I learnt my teacher
$ 20.00
This audio material was arranged by former Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC-TV) Producer Maureen McInerney who holds the copyright of this material. She generously gave this audio data to me to use in whatever way I saw fit hence it is being put on this web site for you to learn from hopefully and to enjoy. This download is entitled "I did not learn my books, I learnt my teacher" and contains interviews between Maureen and a selection of my past pupils when they were adults and looking back on their time in my classroom. It also contains some questions to me and my answers although the first download is devoted entirely to my responses to questions about how I taught my class. The students heard on this download aren’t all from the same year class but are from the same school so were in my class in following years and knew each other. This material includes some of their poetry and this download stands alone but ideally makes a package with the second download which is entitled "Releasing the Natural Mind" and the book "The Spirit of Learning" along with the paper "Give up all questions except one, Who Am I?"

Feather Bottom the Australian Magpie
$ 10.00
The Picture book Introducing Feather Bottom the Australian Magpie is a true story. The photos were taken by Erin and John and Feather Bottom was just being himself, an Australian Magpie looking for tucker (that’s Australian for food). We became friends and he would come every day with his wife whom I stupidly called Jupiter thinking she was the male (until I investigated). They became very familiar with us and it was a sad day when we got Sylvie the cat because Feather Bottom knew that the garden was no longer his preserve alone. There is a poem about Sylvie at the end of the book about Feather Bottom. Children love him. We loved him.
